Age 46 Survey

The Age 46 survey took place in 2004 and was conducted via telephone. Just under 10,000 of you took part.

What we asked

In a 30 minute interview you were asked about who you lived with, where you lived, relationships, children, income, work, qualifications and training, use of computers, numeracy and literacy, health, smoking, drinking, exercise, experience of crime and leisure activities.

When you were 46…

  • 3 in 10 had experienced the death of your mother, half of you had experienced the death of your father.
  • 1 in 6 said that you provided care to someone who was sick, disabled or elderly.
  • 1 in 10 attended a religious service at least two or three times a month, 6 in 10 never attended a religious service.
  • Almost 9 in 10 had a computer at home.
