Management and funding

Who runs the study?

The National Child Development Study (NCDS) is managed by the Centre for Longitudinal Studies (CLS) at the UCL Social Research Institute. CLS manages four studies in total:

  • 1958 National Child Development Study (that’s you!)
  • 1970 British Cohort Study (people born in 1970)
  • Next Steps (people born in 1989-90)
  • Child of the New Century (people born in 2000-01)

You can find out more about CLS at www.cls.ucl.ac.uk.

Who funds the study?

An organisation called the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) provides the majority of the funding for the study. It is one of seven independent research councils in the UK.
