The Study Member Advisory Panel will be a small group of study members who help us make future decisions about NCDS.
Thank you to everyone who volunteered to join the Panel – we were delighted to receive so much interest. We’ve now been in touch to let everyone know the outcome. Please check your email (including spam) if you have not heard from us.
We think NCDS will be a better, more successful study with your input!
Who is part of the Panel?
We have appointed study members from a range of different backgrounds, who together will bring a mix of perspectives to Panel discussions.
Panel members don’t need any specific education, professional experience or formal qualifications to join.
What types of things will the Panel be asked to comment on?
We’re planning to get the Panel’s input on a variety of different things. This might include:
How often will the Panel meet?
There will be two Panel meetings per year:
Are Panellists paid?
Yes, Panellists will be paid for time spent preparing for and attending Panel meetings. We will also cover reasonable expenses.
How long are Panellists appointed?
Panellists have been appointed for a two-year term. We don’t plan to extend the term beyond this or ask study members to serve two consecutive terms. This is because we’re keen for other study members to have the opportunity to join the Panel in future.
Panellists can resign from the Panel during their two-year term if they change their mind or are no longer able to take part.
How were Panellists selected?
In April 2025, we asked all NCDS study members to complete a short online survey about what we should ask you about at age 68. The survey also asked if you would be interested in being part of the Panel and why. We read all your answers, and chose a group that will bring a range of different perspectives and walks of life. We have chosen a balance of men and women, as well as people living in different parts of Great Britain.
When can I expect to hear back on my application?
You should have already heard back from us by email. If you have not heard back, please contact us.
If I’m not selected this time, can I apply again in future?
If you’re not selected this time, we’ll hold your application on file, so that we can come back to you in the future when we’re looking for new panellists.
