Who is paying for the survey?
The Age 68 Survey is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
The problem-solving tasks are funded by Alzheimer’s Research UK and Alzheimer’s Society (US). These are leading charities that fund and support research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. They have recognised that NCDS — with its unique record of following the same group of people across their entire lives — is a vital resource for studying how Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia develop over time. By linking the rich information collected by NCDS over decades with the results of the problem-solving tasks we are asking you to complete in this survey, researchers will be able to explore in detail how experiences and circumstances across the life course may affect different skills in later life. We also hope to repeat these tasks in future surveys, so that we can track how skills change as study members age — something that is crucial to understanding the early signs of dementia. We hope this will contribute to breakthroughs in the early detection of Alzheimer’s dementia, which could in turn improve people’s chances of benefiting from earlier treatment.
